KRG Worldwide

The KRG’s dynamic foreign relations are crucial and integral components of the Kurdistan Region’s economic and social development. We talk to the KRG’s representatives about their missions’ activities and future plans.

KRG in Austria

Dr. Mustafa Ramazan Goran, Representative, KRG in Austria

A number of Austrian companies are already making use of the vast commercial opportunities the Kurdistan Region has to offer. Austrian Airlines was the first international carrier to offer direct flights to Erbil in 2006, contributing immensely in connecting Kurdistan with the rest of the world. Other prominent examples of Austrian commercial activity are the energy company OMV, and Doppelmayr, who built cable cars on Korek Mountain and in Slemani, and is currently working on another project in Duhok. Aside from these projects, our office meets daily with smaller Austrian companies who are showing an increasing interest in the Kurdistan Region’s business opportunities.

Rezan Kader, KRG Representative in Italy

The Kurdistan Region of Iraq has always been considered an oasis of peace and stability in the Middle East, as well as being the gateway to the rest of Iraq. We have always preserved the security of our region. For this reason, and due to the significant investment opportunities offered by the Kurdistan Region, Italian investments have grown steadily in the Kurdistan Region. We have strong ties with Italy and would like to diversify our relationship at all levels.

We encourage the Australian business community to take full advantage of the opportunities in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The KRG provides a strong base from which to do business in the rest of Iraq. KRG in the United States

Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman, KRG High Representative to the USA

Our immediate goals are to continue to strengthen the partnership with the United States in the fields of security and humanitarian assistance. We are grateful to the United States for the leadership it has shown in the fight against ISIS and for providing humanitarian aid. In the longer term, our aim is to broaden the commercial and cultural ties between Kurdistan and the United States and to create a better understanding among Americans of what Kurdistan is and what our aspirations are.

The Kurdistan Region of Iraq is safe with a prosperous future. There are over 1,700 foreign companies, including organizations such as Lafarge, Exxon, Chevron, Total and Gazprom, registered and operating in Kurdistan. Billions of dollars in private investment has been made throughout Kurdistan since 2006. We welcome British expertise in helping us to continue building our infrastructure, healthcare, education, tourism, agriculture, industries and oil and gas sector. As there is a saying that “seeing is believing” so please come and see for yourself.

French companies are currently well represented in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, but a substantial margin for expansion remains. Numerous other profitable investments are available to our French partners. We hope to see small and medium-sized French enterprises invest more heavily in Kurdistan.

Having built a close relationship with Spain’s Ministry of Economy & Competitiveness and the Spanish Institute for Investment & Exportation (ICEX), we determined that the four primary sectors that offer the most potential to Spanish investors and entrepreneurs are construction, agriculture, education and tourism.
